How to Check If the Hard Disk Drive Contains Bad Sectors
Posted in Hard Drive Failure by manyu time 24 SepTo check whether the hard disk has bad sectors, you can use some relevant tools, for example, “SCANDISK”, which comes with the operating system. However, the scanning speed of the software is slower; we could use “Efficiency source hard disk damage detection software” to scan different brands of hard drives.
(1) make a boot disk
Run the program downloaded, insert a floppy disk to the floppy drive, and then run the program, in the main program interface, click “Create Disk Tools” button, then you can generate a tool to detect bad sectors.
Note: The software tool at the moment can only generate a floppy disk drive; the premise is you must have the floppy drive before use.
(2) detect the hard disk
Start the computer, press the Del key to enter the BIOS settings, set “First Boot Device” option to Floppy in the “Advanced BIOS Features”, save the BIOS settings, restart the computer. And then use the tools just created to restart computer.
If the system has only one hard drive, point the cursor to the “full test drive” option, and then press Enter to begin to scan the hard disk. When the scan is finished, you can see the information related to bad sectors.
If your system has installed multiple hard drives, you can select “Advanced detection of the hard disk” in the main interface, enter an advanced test screen, first type “0″ in the “starting position” and press Enter, then type “100″ in “end location”, and press Enter, then type the hard disk serial number in the “current drive” you want to scan, for example, for the second drives, enter “2″, then hit enter and it will begin to scan.
