The zero track on a very important position of hard disk, the hard disk master boot record area (MBR) in this position. MBR in the hard disk cylinder 0 track 0 sector 1, which holds the hard disk master boot program and hard disk partition table. In a total of 512 bytes of hard disk master boot record sector,446-byte belongs to the hard disk master boot program, 64 bytes belong to the hard disk partition table (DPT), 2 bytes (55 AA) belongs to partition end marker. Thus, if the zero track damaged,the hard disk master boot program and partition table information will be severely damaged,and the hard disk can not be bootstrapped.
Zero track damage is belong to one of the hard disk bad sectors, because its location is too important, so once they are damaged, it will have serious consequences.
The usual method is through the maintenance Pctools9.0 of DE (disk editor) to fix (or similar with the disk sector editing tool can also be), its methods as follows:
With the Windows 9x boot disk, insert the CD-ROM containing the Pctools9.0. Run PCT90 directory de.exe, entered the “Options” menu, select “Configuration” (configuration) command, press the “space” key to remove the Read Only (read-only) in front of the hook (press Tab key to switch), After, Save and Exit.
Then choose and implement the main menu “Select” (selection) – Drive (drive), go to”Drive type” (drive type),select Physical (physical), according to spaces selected, and then ” Tab “key to switch to the” Drives “item, select” Hard disk “(hard drive), and finally, select” OK “and press ENTER.
Return to the main menu, open the “Select” menu,it will appear Partition Table (partition table), select and enter, followed by a failed hard drive partition table information. If the hard disk has two partitions, l is the C drive partition, the partition started from the hard disk 0 cylinder, then change 1 partition Beginning Cylinder (starting cylinder) 0 to 1, Save and exit.
It should be noted that, before amendment, first backup important data of hard drive. Restart, press Delete key to enter CMOS settings, select “IDE AUTO DETECT”, you can see the number of CYLS reduction than the original one,then save your settings and exit. To re-partition, and format,the hard disk can be saved.
Note: the DE tool works only on FAT16 partition hard disk, therefore, for the FAT32 partition hard drive, you can use partition master (PQ) and other disk tools convert FAR32 to FAT16, then deal with it.
