When you run into the “HDD Controller Error”, it’s mostly due to the hard disk master boot record (MBR) file being damaged. MBR locates at 0 / 0 cylinder / 1 sector on the hard disk partition and generated from the FDISK.EXE. If the MBR file being damaged, computer will prompt HDD Controller Error, it’s actually a zero track document damaged, formatting can not solve the problem, we must use hard disk data recovery software to deal with it.
First start the system, run Scandisk to check the C drive. If the zero tracks are not damaged, just use Concrete methods as follows: to find a built-in hard drive and repair the hard disk model with a hard drive has exactly the same specifications and equipped with Norton8.0 software, then connect the hard drives to the power cord, with the signal line no connected, jumper is not changed.
1) Run Disk Edit command after start, select CONFIGURATION from the Tools menu, and disable Read Only.
2) Select the O-biect from the drop-down menu, select Driver, set Hard Disk Type to Physical Disk, and clicks OK.
3) Select the Partition Table entry from the Ob-ject menu; take off the signal line from the good hard drive and plug it to the hard disk that needs repair, and then click OK.
4) Select Hard Disk1 and click OK, and then from the Write Ob-ject to Physical Sectors dialog box set Cylinder, Side, Sector to 0, 0, 1 respectively, and then click OK.
When a Warning dialog box appears, select Yes. Exit Norton software, then Hard disk master boot information is retried. Restarts the computer, the hard disk now is back to normal, the original hard drive data will not be lost.
If the zero track is damaged, follow the above steps with the Nor-ton8.0 software, but when reaches the third step, Cylinder, Side, Sector will be set to 1, 0, 1 respectively, and click OK. When the Warning dialog box appears, select Yes. Exit Norton software, restart your computer, and it will automatically detect a hard drive column which can be seen in the CMOS settings, CYLS value decreased 1. If the original CYLS is 2112, then it becomes 2111. It means the original hard disk partition table is start from the C disk 0 cylinder, now starting from 1 cylinder. Save the CMOS settings, then exit.
Then, the work of the hard disk data recovery is completed. If the hard drives self-test “HDD Controller Error”. The above approach does not work; the hard disk can only be scrapped.
